How Many Us Citizens Have Passports

As a citizen of the United States, you are likely aware that you need a passport to travel internationally. But do you know how many US citizens have passports? According to the Department of State, as of 2016, over 55 million US citizens had passports. That’s more than the population of Canada! It’s no wonder then that passport applications are on the rise. If you want to travel internationally but don’t have a passport yet, don’t worry; we have some tips for you in this blog post. From filling out an application to getting your passport in time, read on to learn everything you need to know to get your passport.

What Is a Passport?

A passport is a travel document that allows its bearer to travel internationally and to return to their country of citizenship. A passport is typically issued by a national government for nationals of that government, but can also be issued by other governments for their citizens.

The United States Passport may be used for international travel by U.S. citizens if it has been valid since at least six months before the intended date of departure. The passport must be valid for the entire duration of the trip, not just the period of time you are in a foreign country.

How to Get a Passport

If you are a U.S. citizen, you have an inherent right to travel internationally without a passport. However, if you need to travel for business or for other reasons and your trip will last more than six months, then you will need to obtain a passport. In order to get a passport, you must apply in person at a local U.S. embassy or consulate and provide proof of citizenship such as your birth certificate or naturalization papers. Additionally, you must provide evidence that you will not be traveling outside of the United States during your stay and that you have sufficient funds to cover any expenses that may come up while traveling. If all of the above requirements are met, then the embassy or consulate may issue you a passport without requiring additional documentation or fees.

Who Needs a Passport?

Passports are essential documents for any traveler. But who needs a passport? According to the U.S. State Department, “U.S. citizens need only a passport if they are traveling outside of the United States and its possessions, or if they are traveling to Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Venezuela.” So who else needs a passport? Here are five categories of people who should have one:

1) People Who Are Traveling to Countries That Require a Passport
If you’re visiting any of the countries listed above, you’ll need a passport. If you’re not sure whether your destination requires a passport, check with the embassy or consulate of your destination country beforehand.
2) Citizens of Countries That Don’t Require a Passport
Some countries don’t require their citizens to have passports. These countries are usually considered safe for travel and include the majority of European and North American nations.
3) People Who Are Travelling on Government-Issued Travel Documents
If you’re travelling on government-issued travel documents such as an employee ID card or tourist visa, you don’t need a passport. However, if you’re travelling on these documents without other documentation such as proof of citizenship or residency in the country where you’re travelling (for example, with an international student visa), you will need to obtain a passport before departing.
4) Children Under Age 16 Do Not Need A Passport

How to Renew Your Passport

If your passport is due to expire within the next few months, you will need to renew it in order to continue traveling. The U.S. Department of State has detailed instructions on how to renew your passport.

To renew your passport, you will first need to submit an application form and pay the appropriate fees. Your current passport photo must also be included with your application. Once your application is processed, you will receive a new passport card in the mail. You will then need to visit a U.S. Department of State office in person to submit a new visa and certificate of citizenship or renewal (if applicable). Your old passport will be invalidated once this process is complete.

What if I Lose My Passport?

If you lose your passport, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you will need to notify the nearest American embassy or consulate as soon as possible. Many have emergency document replacement services available. Additionally, many airlines will not allow you to board a flight without a valid passport. If you cannot replace your passport quickly, you may be able to apply for a travel document that is acceptable for international travel. Finally, if you plan on traveling outside of the United States for an extended period of time and do not have another form of identification, you may be required to apply for a visa before traveling.

How Many Americans Have Passports

According to the U.S. State Department, as of September 30, 2013, there were over 10 million active US passports in circulation. This number includes both American citizens and permanent residents who hold US passports. As of September 30, 2013, there were also over 8 million expired US passports in circulation.

The Purpose of a Passport

Passports are issued to citizens of the United States by the U.S. government. They are used to identify a person as a citizen of the United States and allow them entrance into other countries. Most states issue passports to their residents, but some, such as New York, issue passports only to citizens who can provide proof of citizenship. Every citizen age 18 or older must have a passport unless they are a resident of one of the following countries: Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, or the Virgin Islands.

How to Get a Passport

If you are a U.S. citizen, you most likely already have a passport. But if you don’t, there are several steps you can take to get one. The first step is to go to your local post office and ask for an application form. You will need to provide proof of your citizenship and identity, as well as pay the application fee. After completing the form, you will need to take it to your local passport agency for processing. Depending on your location, the agency may require additional documentation such as a photocopy of your birth certificate or your driver’s license photo ID. Once processed, your passport may take up to six weeks to arrive in the mail.

How to Renew Your Passport

If your passport is due to expire within the next few months, you should renew it as soon as possible. There are a few ways to do this:
-You can go to your local passport office and get a new passport.
-You can apply for a renewal online.
-You can renew your passport by mail.

Regardless of how you renew your passport, make sure you have all the necessary documents ready. These include:
-Your current passport photo
-Your application form
-Your payment ( cash or check)
